Ideas For Comfortable Yet Glamorous Outfits

Last week I did a little fashion post titled, "Sweatpants Are For Others, Not Me". I didn't think much of it at the time, but apparently it really touched a nerve with you, my dear readers. So I followed it up with, "I Am Not Dita Von Teese" and in that post I promised I would have some great items for the casual but elegant woman. This is the post I promised! Through the magic of Polyvore I managed to make two different collages as inspiration for your wardrobe. Take a look:

As you can see I used the Dita photos to find similar outfits. Nothing in either collage is vintage. This was done on purpose. You see, I find half the fun of vintage shopping is the hunt! Oh sure, I love finding vintage goodies and posting them on Facebook and Twitter, but for a post like this I prefer retro-modern articles of clothing. The second reason I am only showing you kittens modern clothing is due to the fact I don't wear vintage 24/7. I often wear more of a retro look because I don't want my vintage to be ruined by chores or baby spit-up. If a vintage looking shirt gets a hole in it I don't despair. But if a 1940's vintage dress that fits me perfectly gets a stain on it! Disaster!

I tend to wear a lot of skirts because I find them to be comfortable and glamorous as the same time. I also find pants to be a fit problem- I have a high hip to waist proportion and most pants don't fit me well. So the above look is something I wear on most days. But I live in Southern California, and the weather doesn't get too cold. When I lived back east the thought of a skirt after November was crazy! There was no way I was going to wear a skirt in all of that cold and snow. So that is why I showed you kittens both looks.

As you can see, if you put some forethought into your wardrobe, it is just as easy to throw on a skirt or cute pair of pants instead of a shluby pair of sweatpants. You will look better which will make you feel better. And if you feel better then you are better!

Later this week I will have a post on what you can wear at home when nobody else is there- glamorous 'lounge' clothing, as it is now known. When I wear vintage to do errands and come home, I often change out of my garments in order to keep them clean by throwing on something a little more comfortable. I find it helps me preserve my vintage longer then if I wore it for an entire day.

Grocery Shopping

As a final treat, I thought I would end with an outfit I put together for no reason at all other than I thought it looked cool. As a matter of fact, I ended up buying the pants, shirt, shoes and jacket because I loved the outfit so much! This is a perfect example of something you could wear instead of pajamas or sweatpants while out and about. And though I don't think Dita would wear it, I think she would approve.

  1. I'm terrible for wearing trousers not skirts, it's a habit I've got into but to be honest at my weight they don't look great so thanks for reminding me that skirts can be comfortable too!

Fortunately I sew, therefore trousers fit, but I think I'm going to sew up some skirts over the next few weeks, even though they'll be winter ones!

  6. Hahaha! I love this post. Just this morning I was thinking geez, it's a good thing I don't own a sweatsuit because I would be so tempted just to run an errand or two in it! I'm a fan a leggings, flats and a button up when I want to be comfortable. The publicly acceptable sweatsuit in my opinion!
